The NSW seafood industry is a dynamic network of skilled businesses. Commercial fishers, fish and oyster farmers, wholesalers, processors, retailers and the restaurant and catering industry work together to supply fresh seafood to communities across the state, as well as to interstate and overseas markets.
This vibrant industry generates over half a billion dollars of economic activity each year, employing more than 4000 people. Of this, the commercial fishing managed under NSW jurisdiction is worth more than $90 million dollars at first point of sale.
The NSW Government's objective is to build a strong, confident viable seafood industry. We are working with the whole community to achieve this vision 342 Kb through a series of clear actions.
In addition, we're continually working with commercial fishers to ensure fish stocks are harvested at sustainable levels.
